Building Envelope & Fenestration Assessment

NWBF specializes in the investigation, analysis and resolution of building envelope, fenestration and waterproofing issues, including stucco, EIFS, synthetic and natural siding materials, masonry veneers, etc.

Frequently our investigation involves destructive testing (DT), detailed site / building surveys, material analysis, document and plan reviews, and other forensic testing and measurements. ASTM and other industry investigation protocols are followed so that evidence is obtained and preserved appropriately, including photographic documentation.

Design and Structural Investigation

With over 45 years of architectural design and construction analysis experience combined with 18 code and construction related certifications, NWBF is well qualified to provide architectural and structural assessment and solutions for most building and construction problems.

Property Damage Investigation and Resolution

Property damage from a catastrophic “event” such as a pipe break, fire or storm damage, is different than a construction defect situation and requires a different type of investigation and handling. Our claims experience enables us to investigate and help resolve first party and third party property damage situations pro-actively without overstepping our role. Consequently, we have been able to expedite claims, help minimize costs, and restore property damage so that all parties are satisfied.

Forensic Architecture and Consultation

NWBF offers a variety of architectural services including architectural and general construction standard of care evaluation, building failure analysis, remedial repair design, and comprehensive peer review of design professionals.

Repair Cost Estimating / Analysis

NWBF has the experience and technical skill to prepare repair scopes and estimate costs for simple to highly complex projects.  Our estimates are not based on “industry database” pricing, but include local and current pricing, repair quantities, and numerous other factors that are specific to the specific job. In addition, we can prepare cost allocations that are simple, yet sufficiently detailed to withstand the most critical scrutiny.

Premises Liability

NWBF investigates and provides expert testimony for job-site accidents, slip and falls, and other types of accidents involving building or construction conditions. Our large Code library combined with expertise in building codes, is invaluable for Premises Liability / Personal Injury cases.

ADA Compliance Assessment

We investigate and provide expert testimony for matters that relate to the accessibility of structures as well as the building sites. The ever-changing federal and state requirements make this service essential to any property owner. We are at the tip of the spear when it comes to this type of assessment. Steve is recognized as an instructor for the State of Oregon as well as through the American Institute of Architects. He provides training to Washington, Oregon and California design professionals. He is currently the accessibility consultant to Kaiser Permanente as well as a number of architectural firms.
